Exterior Wood Sealers

Jason Moorhouse

Exterior wood sealers prevent water and migration of moisture into the pores of the substrate (wood fibers). In Park City the climate is extremely dry. We are known for the “greatest snow on earth”. I believe this was coined by Kim McClelland or one of the early visionaries bringing the Olympics to the small summit county town. This greatest snow comes because of the super dry environment. Otherwise known as powder it’s incredibly dry with a low moisture count. Typically we will see moisture as less than 20% under a normal weather pattern. As professional painters we use moisture meters to read the porosity of substrates and check moisture content before coating.

A large problem with new home construction is wet wood coming from the cascades. The moisture content coming into the state will have a count of 30% or more and start drying out. It might take 6 months for the siding to acclimate to the environment in the Wasatch Back Mountains. This could also be extended by the time of year the siding is installed.
